Yes, the mouthpiece is on the other side, but speakers can function as microphones. I’m sure she knows exactly what she’s doing and what effect she wants.

Singing on the earpiece, might also tone down some unwanted transients.
Personally, i would record with a normal microphone like i normally do, eq the vocals to resemble the wanted phone effect and add some saturation for seasoning.
I’ve tested few similar phone microphones though and i think those are pretty neat projects. Personally i wouldn’t build one but if she had fun building it and creating music with it, good for her.

Since us old people think it’s odd that she’s singing into the earpiece..
I’d like to believe that she is indeed singing into the mouthpiece, since our telephones did not come standard with that fancy audio jack.
We had either no jack, or an RJ11 jack. That thing is modified.

For everyone commenting about her singing in the wrong side, notice the cable here is not the standard telephone headset cable, but similar to what is used with electric guitars. I think this 1/4″ connector was installed on the speaker end of the headset along with a volume knob on the back. There is nothing plugged into the RJ-9 connector on the end where she is singing and the headset is just mounted sideways.

Is the top set up to receive the sound? If not, she’s singing into the wrong end. She might get way better quality singing into the bottom.
