    1. It’s a lot harder on the internet. Especially now that everyone hides their accounts.

HOLY SHIT AMEN. Like jfc why did spoon feeding a reader what they’re suppose to feel from a post or comment become the norm? There have always been people with abysmal takes on the internet but back in my day you had to use your brain to figure out if they had brain damage or were just trolling.

    3. Because we’ve met people genuinely stupid and ignorant enough that those posts don’t sound like satire anymore. It’s as simple as that.

I mean the people who use /s constantly are also the ones who think stereotypes are racist, so i dont expect them to be able to understand anything that isnt skin deep.

    5. mfs when neurodivergent people commit the atrocious and unforgivable crime of existing and politely asking for clear language

    6. To be fair though, catching sarcasm in written form is a lot harder if English isn’t your native language. Also sarcasm isn’t as prevalent in many cultures, so it goes over people’s heads

When people call ‘satire’ or ‘irony’ ‘sarcasm’ because they don’t understand the nuance between those terms…

It’s hard to convey tone across text, which is typically used to discern sarcasm from serious conversations. For instance, if I were to type out “that’s what a gay would say” do you have any idea if what I’m saying is a joke or not?

the problem is people these days dont have the reading comprehension to understand written sarcasm. if you dont put /s they will take you completely seriously.

    10. Isn’t intonation important to express sarcasm? There is no intonation in writing form. It is up to reader to apply intonation.

Its harder because what used to be /s is actually opinions.
People believe earth if flat without /s.
