I’m working in retail rn, not Aldi though. All store brand products have these larger upc codes, and it makes scanning them a lot more pleasant. Other brands, on the other hand, just fuck around and put the code god knows where sometimes. With chips it is very noticeable. I’ve seen the code in every single one of the back corners of the packaging.

Not a bad idea. I’ve seen some retail workers really struggle with scanning. It’s a source of frustration for sure.

That’s a big part of why they’re able to scan so fast. It’s impressive

Aldi also prints out the receipt as each item is scanned. So you don’t have to wait for the whole receipt to print at the end of the transaction. Only the total has to print at the end.

Hell yeah this is the mildly interesting content I like to see. Made me consider for a brief moment and give a stupid little nod of approval.
Also, they don’t use any artificial dyes in their food. Might not be a big deal outside of the US but I think it’s pretty neat!

Conversely, IKEA.
They want you to put big, heavy, bulky boxes full of plywood onto their checkout belt so that the bar code faces the employee. *They* print the boxes; they could put bar codes on **every damn side** of the box if they chose.

For certain products (cereal) they also put multiple barcodes on the product so it’s even easier.

Another reason why Aldi is goated. I am in and out so fast no matter how busy it is. As long as everyone gets a cart at least lol
