why DID it become associated with clowns and stuff anyway?

To be fair, the song is really upbeat and goofy.

I thought “entrance of the gladiators” was supposed to be a sarcastic name and it was like meant for clowns rolling on stage and juggling. Gladiators entering the ring

I love this song unironically though and it’s in several of my playlists

“Can you write us some marching music?”
“Fucik, why not”

If you listen to it with images of a fast paced march in mind instead of a circus it does kinda work.

I have long known this, but I still can’t wrap my head around how it could be perceived as anything *but* goofy.
Like, it doesn’t sound upbeat in a *triumphant* way, it sounds upbeat in a “three legged race at the spring fling school fundraiser” kind of way. *How* could someone listen to this and think “yes, this inspires me to be brave and die for my country!”

Should have gone hard with the brass instead of silly

What’s the deal with his moustache?
Well, the only diference it’s that the circus is funny…
This explains so much about war, though.
The AU where Austro-Hungarian soldiers go marching into WWI to the tune of clown music is oddly fitting.
Julius Fučík, [Entrance of the Gladiators](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entrance_of_the_Gladiators)
Shouldn’t have been so goofy then…
Same thing
He uh, he thought that was a war song?

Alas, war is for clowns.
Ooof
In the [originally intended tempo](https://youtu.be/1ayD0Jc_mb4) I can kinda see it as a military parade song.
