I knew two great men who were telephone operators in the mid-1970’s.
Both of them absolutely loved the job.
And both of them got more action in their years at the operator’s desk than the rest of us have seen in a lifetime!

Here’s a fun historical fact for you: the first telephone switchboard operators were adolescent boys, but they would get sloppy, break into private conversations, and were generally not dependable.
