Ah yes, this argument that oldheads from
all races and cultures seem to love: we didn’t know or care about it back in the day, so it didn’t exist.
Granted, there may be new environmental factors that are expediting this, but that’s a tenuous connection at best and the science is still not conclusive on this despite ongoing research. Unless you’re ol Bobby Brainworm running our government health bodies into the ground with baseless conspiracy theories.

I wasn’t diagnosed until my son was. As soon as it was confirmed everything started to make sense lol

Minorities and the poor are the most undiagnosed and under cared for.

I mean both things can be true. Black people are historically under diagnosed and we’ve seen an obvious uptick in cases. You can say that without buying into conspiracy theories of its origin.

My two cents: A lot of stuff we just lived with, we were going through life undiagnosed and just winging it.
Add to that, the world is a lot more complex now than when the old heads grew up. Our diets have changed, we are constantly distracted with technology and we are all much less social beings now.
All this will seem to cause some strange shit we never saw generations ago.

“No autism in older generations”
My grandmother had a whole, furnished room that we weren’t allowed to sit in. The flooring and walls were blue and it’s where she kept her bell collection.
If that’s not autism, it’s at *least* autism adjacent.

None of the examples they listed would be considered severe autismÂ

Those examples at the top aren’t autism, that’s just being poor and having low energy from working all the damn time

Like… what are they thinking here? Someone went and said:
“Oh boy these white people and their mental illnesses are so cool, I wish they made them for Black people!”

Misophonia is a completely separate thing from autism, although they can sometimes overlap.

People who became addicts to cope with their mental problems… people who were institutionalised because their symptoms were severe and there were no supports for their parents…

Even into the 2000s those kids were just “odd”, “strange”, “special”, “slow”, “weird” and/or called slurs. And depending on the region, district, socioeconomic factors they were either crammed into a special ed class or ignored/placated.

Hey I remember my grandpa specifically ONLY watching Pro wrestling… Like didn’t really talk a whole lot to other people, pretty much kept to himself and stuff, but legit would sit in his room ALL DAY, from dawn till dusk, and watch WWF at the time. Nobody has ever brought up that my grandpa was maybe a little.. different.. but thinking back now as an adult he definitely was on the spectrum just was totally undiagnosed.

I agree with both points but I do believe there are more black children on the spectrum these days

My dad had an entire room dedicated to transistors like he was Cuba Gooding Radio and insisted that my autism diagnosis was just white people brainwashing.

Apparently having a full pound of microplastics swimming around in your brain juice will cause some odd behavior. Who’d have guessed?

Don’t forget a lot of us are neurodivergent but got the visible characteristics beaten out of us at a young age. We learned to mask that as well as possible just to survive.
