The Madonna of Zbraslav was commissioned for the Cistercian Abbey of Zbraslav, which was established as the burial place of the Přemyslid dynasty, which ruled over Bohemia from the 9th to 14th c. Later legends claimed the image was commissioned by Wenceslaus II, though modern research indicates a later date in the mid-14th c.
The Madonna of Zbraslav was often copied during succeeding centuries, with many of the copies existing around Czechia and elsewhere today. Today, the image is on display at the Convent of St. Agnes in Prague, part of the National Gallery.
