I hope this is okay to ask: I am from the UK but my mum grew up in Tennessee in the 1980s and her neighbours were a couple similar to you, white TN guy and an Asian lady. She said they got people saying nasty things to them sometimes and talked about getting hassle from strangers, in restaurants etc.
As a couple of different races in the 70s did you ever get people giving you a hard time? I ask because my “current” (ha!) boyfriend is Australian and lives in a place with a thriving Asian community and is happy to report people don’t seem so prejudiced anymore.

David cross did a tour a couple years ago where he mentions his “current wife”. The audience lost it. It was factually true. He’s like “what!?! She is my current wife!” And elaborated. Hilarious to see this in the wild unintentionally.
