    1. That’s a weird read of history, until the early 1700s Sweden and the Ottomans were stronger in the region

The Mongol invasions of eastern europe and it’s consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

As if the other colonial powers/empires weren’t pretty much the same. Not saying that historically Russia was heaven on earth (especially for the peasants), but singling it out from the rest of Europe and the US is kinda disingenuous (not the problem with this particular post – just something that’s been bothering me with the memes on this sub for a while). Narrowing Russia down to “the ever-evil empire” just because of the current administration is also kinda dumb (I don’t like the guy either, but we’re not all like him, c’mon)

    4. The lack of self-awareness they have when they complain about “imperialism” is hilarious. Dude, you’ve literally been the biggest imperialistic asshole of Central Asia and Eastern Europe for 500 years. Do you really think you became the world’s largest country by being nice to people?

    5. I feel like whether Russia is tsarist, communist or oligarchical, it doesn’t really matter, especially for us who are neighbors. Its goals and attitudes to the world are the same.

And the worst part is that the Russians, or rather the Russian government, learned nothing and continue to treat their neighbors like dirt, and then they get upset when NATO expands.

    7. You forgot to add the jews in the group given how antisemitic russia got

      Other then that, yeah accurate

WELCOME TO THE LOSERS CLUB ASSHOLE.

IT part 1 is probably the best Stephen King movie adaptation

I know people like the Shining, but The book is better and the book and movie are genuinely extremely different.

Also in the Book Dick Halloran is a badass army veteran who owned a nightclub in derry Maine and survived a pennywise cycle and lived through the book

Kubrick turned him into a stereotypival magical black man who dies

To be fair to Russia, they did have good leaders like Peter and Catherine the Greats and Tsar Alexander II who tried to do good for the country

Unfortunately, the assassination of Tsar Alexander II and the inept Tsar Nicholas III brought the trajectory of Russia from modernization like Britain and Japan into a hellhole

I can get anti-Russian sentiment but I disagree with Russophobia against Rusisan people, even if Eastern Europeans do have legit grievances on the state policies of Russia

It’s like every time the world agrees upon some kind of status quo Russia always decides It’s gonna be a pain in the ass about it.

Imperialism? Hate it, give me democracy.

Ok, so it’s democracy now. Hate it, give me liberalism.

Alright, it’s liberalism now. Hate it, give me imperialism.

    11. Why are Poland and Baltics (Lithuania) on the pic? They were the OGs of being a terrorising neighbour before Russia stopped them. Same with Finland that was treated much better than any other Russian territory in history before the Empire fell

    12. Dark_knight_96_rbh on

The russia hate is so unjustified and historically inaccurate, thruought its what 700 year history russia was on the back pedal basically until the death of Ivan the Terrible, getting continuosly slammed by the commonwealth, tatars and sweden. Then you have the moral debate “oh noo the genocides” as if the entirety of europe wasn’t commiting them up until the 1950s, the “oh noo imperialism” as if the entirety of siberia wasn’t populated with the population of back then Madrid. So ur meaning to tell me that a country with what 20 milion inhabitans back in the pike and shot era wasn’t going to capitalise on said manpower? what a joke

    13. HolyMopOfCheese on

Doesn’t matter which colour they are, Communist, Monarchist, Right-Wing nationalist, Russia has always been THE imperialist for the past 500 years. Even today you would see Putinists flying the Tsar and Soviet flag and you wouldn’t question a thing cuz that’s just Russia now.

    14. georgakop_athanas on

When you try to conquer the World as a Brit or other Euro imperialist + their occasional sidekicks, but Russia is the guy who stops you or otherwise trips your legs, and you are crazy mad at her:

I love the description one time where someone was like, authoritarianism literally IS Russian culture. The entire political and economic system has changed multiple times and yet they fall back into the same tricks every single time. I hold genuine curiosity about what cultural trait makes this such an easy thing for the Russian people to accept? Some concept of might makes right? Deferment to authority or elders?

    16. What am I supposed to do as a Russian when I see memes like this? Feel ashamed? Angry? Maybe sad?

I’m just interested in your opinions.

    17. > Islam

Yeah, les wholesome chungus Crimean Khanate and Khanate of Kazan and their slave raids. I think it’s absolutely fair to call out Russian imperialism, but it’s absolutely disingenuous to portray at least half of listed entities as innocent kids, who were just doing their business until evil ass rape clows decided to diddy bluds them.
