“Frequent Wind” – the evacuation of Americans and friendly Vietnamese by helicopter from the embassy grounds. Helicopters flew for almost 24 hours, and at 3:45 a.m. on April 30, Kissinger ordered the evacuation of only Americans – there was almost no time left, the city had almost fallen. The last helicopter departed at 7:53 a.m. 978 Americans and about 1,100 Vietnamese were evacuated, leaving 420 Vietnamese behind on the embassy grounds.
