they can use the victim card 24/6 then since they were still invaded, culturally supressed and opressed through the years, maybe at some point the scottish nobles were forced to make deals and then prospered togheter with the english but the scottish people still suffered unlike the elites of both sides

The next level part of this is when you say the same thing to Irish people (absent the king bit)

Scottish people had a very oversized footprint when it came to owning slave plantations in the Southern USA also

Aye, there’s an awful lot of Scots that must think Glasgow has a Jamaica street because someone on the council was a huge Bob Marley fan.

Anecdotal info obviously, I ve never seen this in my group. What I have seen is plenty of other people saying that we are like/believe this.
Speak to any Scot, we want to be like the Denmark Norway. It’s a lot of the British that want the UK to be like the British empire.

Same with people from Northern Ireland lol. The “northern” part makes a big difference.

No one should play victim cards even Indian people like myself. Many of the people in my country decades ago suffered greatly but we can’t blame the modern day Britishers for that. We should look at what is happening now those things are important.

Right, the monarchy was united under a Scottish dynasty and one reason the Scottish Parliament voted for Union was the economic fallout of their failed Darien venture (I wonder why this is the one strip of land in the Americans no one has settled yet? Must be prime real estate!)
They had double their share of prime ministers – including the first Tory PM and first Labour PM – disproportionately more colonial governors, military men, slave traders…
The Highland Clearances were overwhelmingly perpetrated by Scots.
Falklands, Nyasaland, New Caledonia… Elgin (he of the marbles) was a Scottish lord…
And the terminally online ‘Scotland good England bad’ sort of Scottish nationalists love to see themselves on par with Ireland, when the Ulster Plantations were overwhelmingly settled by Scots under a Scottish king.

Tbf alot of countries like to forget they helped, Hannover (at the time it’s own nation) and Ireland for Example. Also alot of individuals benefited and helped who were not British, doesn’t Excuse any of the shit we did.

As a Dutch person I cannot tell anyone anything about their past. When I look at now, and the future, I do like the scottish politic views a lot more then Englands stands. More mature andere wise tbh

Yes and no. A lot of us are aware of Darien and James VI, but it’s not like everyone in a nation takes ownership of anything that ever happened there. After all, monarchs of that age have little relation to anyone alive today (even James VI connection to the present day monarchy is tenuous at best given the whole Hanoverian thing)
Anyway, it’s bait but it’s funny

Well the Scottish were sent to Ireland with promise of riches, instead got attacked by the Irish and then the king withdrew British Troops and left the Scottish to fend for themselves in hostile territory, all for them to eventually be sent to America and become known as the Scots-Irish

It’s an important myth to bust, particularly given how prevalent it is with older indy supporters in Scotland. That said, it doesn’t by any means negate other more modern reasons for wanting Scotland to distance itself from a UK who’s democracy continues to crack under pressure (see first past the post and it’s problems when you have 5 parties polling well), and increasingly isolates itself from Europe at a time when Europe needs to stand together.

Protestantism is the biggest religion in Scotland ya thick cunt and atleast they had the foresight to build a proto crossing across Panama and it was harpooned by the Spanish and the English which was the catalyst for the Empire. People jump on a movie like braveheart and think Scots are thicker the zoo glass cause we get a bit patriotic about keeping some identity in a period of normanization. We kick started the industrial revolution and we are fairly well educated about our footprint in the world.
