Those boards looks so heavy compared to what we have now, I miss that era

I skateboarded in the early 70’s. The wheels were still made from steel and put your feet to sleep.

My first skateboard was one of these plastic ones. Bought in a garage sale in 1990 for $5 I think.
It was so quick too I used to love it, as until that point I’d only had Kmart boards and never knew how good a board could be with decent trucks and wheels.

Dude that looks like the heart of dogtown. In the background you can see one of those gnarly brick or concrete block public bathrooms along the beach in Sta Monica and Venice. You can see sand on the concrete and asphalt, and between the structure and the palm tree, maybe a glance of the Pacific. Classic photo, maybe a Craig Stecyk original?
Or maybe it’s just nostalgia for my SoCal youth making all this up.

My buddies and I skated hard in the mid and late 70’s. We used to dumpster dive at the Kryptonic’s plant in Boulder to get reject wheels for our boards.
