Other than the huge cracks, that pavement looks nice and clean like it was done recently.

I can’t be the only one who has had this nightmare before. Though mine usually dead ends into the ocean.

This is incredibly awesome. Hard to think AI wasn’t used here (not saying it was). How were you able to get there? Looks very dangerous.

I’d say the road collapsing into cracks dozens of feet deep is a good sign that it’s probably not a good fucking idea to be standing on top of those sections. Jfc

I used to have a recurring nightmare where I’d be driving on a highway in St. Louis I always drove, and suddenly something very similar to this would happen, and I’d be suspended on a road island with no road in front or behind me. Thanks for the PTSD

What happened here? Volcanic eruption?
EDIT: My question was answered. It’s a caldera. Thank you.
Where is this?
Reminds me of that SpongeBob episode where the road just goes 90° down 😂
This is Halema’uma’u caldera at Kilauea volcano in Hawai’i. The caldera collapsed in 2018, due to the underlying magma chamber draining.
Edit for more info- This part is obviously closed by the Volcano National Park service and one has to sneak in. The area is quite unstable.
We’ve been lucky to see four magnificent eruptions in the last year. This fountain was 1500 feet tall.
