    1. That dog has perspective. In reading just now I see there were other frescos with perspective unearthed in Pompeii but the ones in Rome lack it. Seems like Vesuvius may have done some damage to the development of artistic method.

      This masterpiece had a dual function: to decorate and to warn visitors of the possible presence of guard dogs. The leash depicted reinforces the dog’s symbolic role as protector of the home.
      Having survived the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, the mosaic is an incredible example of Roman art and daily life… It’s truly fascinating.
