In Forrest Gump (1994), Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis personally funded the iconic running across America scene using their own money. The film went on to win six Oscars, including Best Actor for Hanks and earned Hanks $65 million in profits, surpassing Paramount’s $55 million production

There’s been so many “paid their own money” and “improved this scene” posts on the internet lately that I know are bullshit that I don’t believe any of them anymore

    2. And yet, the author Winston Groom was paid a meager sum because he accepted “Net” profits. In Hollywood, every movie is a loss, net profits are zero, even for blockbusters.

He wrote a sequel, but Winston said he couldn’t put his work behind such an unprofitable venture as a movie.

You mean two well-established Hollywood creatives and businessmen invested in a venture they believed would profit? Weird.

    4. Um these weren’t two struggle indie filmmakers who maxed out their credit cards to finish their movie. They were millionaires who took a calculated risk that paid off handsomely. Let’s not canonize these guys too quickly. I mean good for them but come on, they could afford it.

If I had to guess, the cost was insignificant compared to the movie it self. There were no special effects, one actor and a dozen extras running with Tom.

I hated this movie so much. It seemed like it was written by a bunch of focus groups populated by a bunch of narcissistic baby boomers. Or something.

    7. I had to read that a few times before decoding what you were trying to say, but yes, he did. And the movie too.

    8. worst cringe movie as hell like zootopia, like disabled people are only “useful” with exceptional talents that overwhelm ordinary people
