Adding some context… spent the last two days packing and moving my mom into memory care. Came across this picture. I was 8 years old. I’m at the far end of the table. I can still name most the kids in this photo. Special mention to my friend and neighbor Matt who passed away at 13 from muscular dystrophy (he is nearest the camera in green shirt). Also, extra special mention to my grandma Bernie in the white hair. She was a sarcastic vulgar chain smoking badass.
I was 6 days old when this photo was taken. I do miss pizza hut parties though. We had one right next to a blockbusters, ahh good times.
What have we lost?
Nothing in this image would be too out of place today, it’s only 30 years ago, but something is throwing me off. I don’t know how to explain, all the fashion would be completely acceptable today.
I think it’s environment, it’s a pizza hut, but it has so many warm colours and a table cloth, it’s red and the walls are warm. I don’t know if it’s a function of time or geography (located in Brazil), or simply that I don’t visit fast food joints, but I always associated Pizza Huts with black and white colours, the lab clean environment, very sterile.
I had my birthday party at Pizza Hut in 1994. Probably the coolest party I ever had.

Man… Pizza Hut used to slap hard. I miss those days. I still eat it but it hits differently. (And personal pan pizzas taste different and way more awesome than larger pan pizzas. I will die on that hill.)
