There is an enduring myth about Churchill being informed of the bombing before it happened thanks to the Enigma code being decoded and deciding to do nothing, sacrificing the city to protect the advantage they had thanks to the Enigma code.
In fact, the Enigma messages were not clear enough, only indicating that a major raid was going to happen, but with London being a likely target. Hours before the raid, additional intelligence was gathered, with no time for any evacuation.
