Tim Burton was set to direct Batman Continues, a third Batman film with Michael Keaton as Batman, Pfeiffer as Catwoman, and Billy Dee Williams as Two-Face. Warner Bros. removed him after parents criticized Batman Returns as being too dark.

    1. They replaced “Dark” with neon crotch shots and Rubber Batsuit nipples. Great job parents!

    2. The poster makes it look like Pfeiffer is playing penguin and Danny Devito is playing catwoman

      Now that I’d watch

It wasn’t just parents either. The advertisers and companies who made products aimed at kids also complained. Especially McDonald’s who looked weird making toys and Happy Meals off a movie with a horny ass Penguin man who bit people’s noses and a super sexy Catwoman in tight leather.

Would love to see the alternate universe where he kept making the movies and just doubling down lol

    4. Omg, I forgot Billy Dee was Harvey Dent way back then. He would’ve been a great Two Face.

    5. I gotta say “Batman Continues” is just about the worst name you can create for a Batman movie. What does he do? Idk, he continues doing the shit he was doing before

Man, Lando Two-Face would have been awesome. I would have loved to see Billy Dee Williams be all charming and suave as Harvey, and then chew up the scenery as Two-Face.

Also, Michael Keaton was a great Batman, but to everyone saying he’s the best; I’m sorry, but the best Batman was and always will be Kevin Conroy. RIP.

There’s a bit more to it than that. It wasn’t that parents criticized it for being too dark, it’s that the McDonalds tie-ins got fucked up because there was Happy Meal toys representing a more comic-accurate Penguin and then in the movie we got…that. Less the angry parents and more the sponsors that got hold of Forever and made it more toyetic, I think is the word

    8. Batman Forever didn’t do much better in the box in office. and Batman and Robin did even worse, interestingly enough.

    9. I doubt Burton would have used Billy Dee in a third Batman film because he replaced Harvey Dent in Batman Returns with Christopher Walken’s Max Shreck. If there were bigger plans for Harvey Dent, why not keep the character?

    10. And then it all went a bit camp, but this is why I see Adam west and George Clooney in equal grounds
