Following the end of World War 1, the German Empire was dissolved, in its replacement was a a democratic republic, commonly known as the *Weimar Republic* (however it was still officially known as the German Reich). During this time, Prussia was a constituent state of the Weimar Republic, led by the Minister president, Otto Braun, who did his best to democratize the free state of Prussia, as well as helping to stabilise the state during the famously unstable time of the Republic.
However after some complicated politics and physical deterioration, Braun was forced to leave office in 1932 following the Prussian coup d’état and following Adolf Hitler seizing power in 1933, Braun went into exile. the Nazi party would reform the internal borders into states called “Gaus” which effectively dissolved Prussia barring East Prussia.
Germany would go on to start World War 2, and like last time, lose horribly and lose land (hope third time *won’t* be the charm). Braun would come to the allies and ask them to reinstate an independent Prussia, however the Allied Powers had agreed to offically abolish Prussia in 1947, with East Prussia being split between Poland and the Soviet Union, later on Russia. The Russian Prussia would later on be renamed Kaliningrad and Prussia would forever more be gone. Braun would later die in 1955, being largely forgotten in German history.
And call me the last Prussian Nationalist because MY GOD IT HURTS EVEN AFTER ALL THIS TIME. Though, Prussia was indirectly responsible for the militaristic nature of the German Empire, and later on the 3rd Reich, so… I do understand why it had to go… I’m not crying, I just cut my cheeks and my blood is clear… for some reason
