Something oddly beautiful and terrifying about the deep unknown.

That juxtaposition of the turquoise against the dark blue directly underneath is mesmerizing.

    3. I was there and it its freaky! You swim out and can see the sand all the way to the ropes and then its dark. Was creepy and stayed away from roped off area.

    4. I’ve snorkelled a mile along this very stretch and it’s nowhere like what this picture would have you believe.

    5. There’s a lake in Northern lower Michigan that is very clear and shallow for about a football field, then just drops to like 30 feet and more. The kids like to snorkel to the edge, I tried it noped right out. Even though it’s a clear, freshwater lake, that transition is scary and I’m i good swimmer with almost no fear. Almost.

I’ve scuba dived that, and it’s really beautiful and dangerous, because it’s hard to tell how deep you are/fast you’re dropping.. you can drop to really dangerous depths really quickly if you’re not monitoring your depth and controlling your buoyancy.

    7. That island looks like it could tip over at any second. Someone get Hank Johnson on the line.

You can drown in shallow water just as easily. Pretty sure that’s where most of them actually happen.
