    1. [Hujum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hujum) was a campaign by the USSR during the Stalin era to crush gender inequality and to end religious repression of women in Central Asia. The aggressive campaign was meant to give women in these areas of the USSR more opportunities to be workers and receive educations, and thus be productive members of a communist society, instead of being merely servants to their husbands.

While the campaign met with widespread resistance and resentment in areas such as Uzbekistan, the campaign heavily increased female literacy, while significantly diminishing practices such as child marriage, polygamy and honor killings.

Just reminded me of joking in the tropico reddit of making the kids learn to read better at gun point.

My daughter is going to be a GREAT engineer. She is already smarter than me and I will teach her as fast as she will learn.

Unfortunately I will probably run out of use by the time she is 5….

While I certainly support increasing opportunities for women in employment and education, that line of thinking did not extend to the Politburo.

Women, who kicked off the Russian Revolution and were instrumental in its success, were quickly sidelined and their roles in committees restricted or subjugated (IIRC they eliminated the committees that the vast majority of women party members say on).

Lots of societies get more comfortable with women in factories and universities when they need to maximize economic development/output. But look to who holds the levers of power to see that planned economies are no less proficient in the production of glass ceilings….
