I love other cultures, embracing them is something that I have found joy in as I have grown older. I used to feel that other cultures were “weird” because they didn’t do things “our” way, but holy shit.. learning that you can cook something a different way and get a different taste is amazing, and they do what with the skin from their cows?! WOAHHH, it’s just so cool. I think at a young age we are kind of trained to “love” the way we live and “hate” the way others live, when in reality we should just be able to appreciate that us animals can all just move in a sort of pack/unity.
Sorry for the soap box lmao

Jealously is the fear of losing something you have while envy is coveting what other people have.

My greatest resolution for 2026 is to try to be less jealous of others and their experiences because I don’t get to experience them, doing so just makes you less willing to carve out your own experiences due to wanting to play catch-up. Life is made to be curious at your own interests, not to sit there wanting everything on your timeline that you can’t immediately get. I’m starting a book club for Christ’s sake, I want to do ME and MY interests

I’m gonna sound old (because I kind of am), but fuck it: **Do less social media. Get the fuck off that shit.**
They are all literally designed to portray the lives and belongings of others in the most flattering way possible, but it’s done with the continual veneer of authenticity. You won’t even *realize* it, but you’ll start to compare every part of your life to what you’re seeing on IG and TikTok, and identify yourself as the problem.
Even if someone isn’t literally posting about material goods or financial wealth, they could just be presenting a happy, relaxed, meaningful and positive life that feels far richer than your own. My wife has told me countless times that she Feels Like Shit because someone she follows posted a vid about how relaxed and mindful their work day is, and it makes her feel stressed and stupid.
I point out all the ways people can bend the truth, distort an image, or just straight up lie online. I point out that influencer accounts are people who have turned themselves into the product for prospective advertisers, which means you’re only looking at the packaging when you see their photos and reels. Sometimes, I think it helps. But that shit is cumulative, and it’s making us miserable.
And being privately depressed or hard on yourself is the *best case scenario*, right? If it becomes toxic and violent, it looks more like OP’s screenshot; people who have been made to feel small and worthless, choosing instead to lash out to try and reclaim some dignity, purpose, or personhood. (Or they’ve just been ignorant and racist this whole time.)
**TL;DR -** Every social media platform takes the basic goal of advertising (making someone feel bad about themselves and offering a product as a solution) and cranks it up by 1000% in an endless stream that’s literally programmed to find and target your mental weak spots. We deserve better, so stay away if you can.
