Context: Peter I of Portugal (Then prince) was going to be married to Constanza Manuel. However, when she arrived, she also arrived with Inês de Castro who was her lady-in-waiting.

Peter fell in love with Castro and started an affair with her. Not liking this, his father (King Afonso IV) had Castro assassinated, causing Peter revolt against his father which he lost but survive thanks to the mediation of his mother. 2 years later, his father died, and Peter had the assassins of Inês de Castro executed by personally ripping out the hearts, and then declared his marriage to her legitimate.

There are also myths he had her body exhumed and place on the throne and forced people to swear allegiance to their new queen, but that’s just a myth. Otherwise, he also had his tomb written *até ao fim do mundo* (until the end of the world).
