As a kid our home was heated by coal. I was the eldest kid and was the furnace keeper. There were many homes in our community that used coal and you could smell sulfur in the air on cold winter nights. I would open the bottom flue to allow extra oxygen in the get the coal nice and hot, load the furnace with lots of coal, shut the bottom flue and the furnace was banked for the night.

Blacksmithing is so badass. Unfortunately I know nothing about it, and no one I know knows anything… and I am broke.

“Make sure to watch it till the end”: when I read this, I assume I’m about to watch a boring 90-second video with a interesting twist in the last five. That’s an instant skip for me.

Boring video but I did a blacksmithing workshop and after 3 hours of hammering, I have a nice iron hook for my coatÂ

Haven’t been in the forge for a few years after an injury to my hammering hand, but damn if I never got tired of that smell…
