Hindsight is 20/20 but looking at this photo I’m just struck by the contrast between China’s and India’s 1980’s and how differently they went. Both were extremely poor, largely rural countries led by an educated elite desperate to improve the welfare of its peoples. But it took India another decade plus after this picture was taken to make serious changes.
