I posted last year when I reached the 100.000 push-ups mark and since that post blew up I thought you’d might to hear about my progress. I lost a bit of steam after reaching the 100.000 push-ups, and even though I kept on the habit I didn’t try that hard. I’ve averaged 40~push-ups per day. I guess I need to feel close to another big value to get motivated again hehe
It started as a petty 7-day challenge. I could barely do 5 push-ups and most of the days I didn’t do them. Now, after so many days most of the days I find myself doing push-ups without even thinking about it. It’s probably my strongest habit, even stronger than brushing my teeth. At the beginning, I did milder versions of push-ups, like inclines and negatives, but over time I could do around 20 in solid form. These last years I’ve been averaging 50 per day (approximately) in 2 sets of 25 normally. One set in the morning and one before going to bed. Some days I’d only do the night set though, since it’s the stronger habit.
I started doing them to improve my core and avoid back pain, being a tall skinny dude that tends to happen. But it has certainly helped a lot in that regard. I’m not super athletic or fit but after 9 years ~~ it has certainly had a positive impact in my body.
I do encourage everyone to give it a try. Start super small if you have never done one, maybe 5 inclines, or 1 knee push-up, but stick to it every day. Don’t worry about getting sore, if you do few every day and constantly that’s not going to happen. Don’t overdo it and you’ll be fine. Your body will always let you know. My goal wasn’t really to get fit or anything, I just wanted to develop a healthy habit and after a while it just became something that made me feel good about myself. I am someone who does push-ups every day! And I believe you can be that person too.
