(I forecasted 3 drinks today, but might be more).

I work in a job where it's socially acceptable to drink and is often a required part of work functions. Plus all the work friends also drink socially. Plus I enjoy having some tasty drinks.

To gauge how much I actually drank during the year I decided to keep track for once. I used the free Habits app to track my numbers. My goal was to not drink during the week to: save money, cut calories, be healthier and just plain old curiosity.

    1. I know this sub isn’t the place but you know you don’t have to drink at work functions even if it’s socially acceptable. Personally, I quit a couple years ago and it has felt great. If you’re ever interested r/stopdrinking has a lot of encouraging people.

Interesting data regardless of your choice. I like the layouts!

    2. That is a lot of drinks still. Scale that back to maybe 3 a week. And none on the workdays. For example limit it to a beer on saturday afternoon and a nice wine at Sunday dinner. Enjoy quality not quantity.

But knowing the amount is at least good. All the best for 2026.

    3. Having a “goal” for 0 drinks for any amount of time means you have a problem friend. 0 should be baseline and you should really only be drinking in social settings, and even then you don’t HAVE to drink in social settings…

    4. Wow, that seems like an incredibly high amount. I don’t drink, but some of my family does and they drink maybe two dozen beers a year or something like that. I get that not everyone ascribes to that lifestyle, but from my understanding drinking isn’t really a habit you want to cultivate.

Good work cutting down during the week at least. This is a great stepping stone for cutting down even more over time.

    5. Depending on what you do/how things work where you’re at, consider reaching out to the people who plan your work events to ask about adding a mocktail or even just NA beer to the menu. It’s possible someone just hasn’t thought of it. I do events for work and would definitely appreciate this perspective/feedback.

    6. I guess tracking is the first step towards being honest with yourself about how much you drink. I hope you already know that most people do not drink this much.

    7. If you want to drink less, but all means do so. But I wouldn’t say you have a problem, you’re averaging about a drink and a half per day. Comfortably in the “moderate drinker” bucket.

    8. As a complete stranger, this is a lot of alcohol. You seem to be in a circle that drinks regularly. Be careful

Jesus. I had half a buzzball back in June. Before that a sip of sangria Christmas Eve last year.

Never had a problem drinking but I’ve seen too many alcoholics. I’ve lost nothing but gained much.
