A random chicken has appeared at our doorstep. We live nowhere near chickens.

It has no visible tag, or any indication its owned by anyone. We are keeping it in our backyard for a few days, as there is a heatwave. We provided the chicken with plenty of water and shade. It is calm and shows no signs of stress, its just pecking around for bugs.

We’ve all heard of the cat distribution system but this is the first time I’ve seen chicken logistics lol

    3. How do you know you live nowhere near chickens? You may be making some assumptions about where chickens live. Based solely on her coloration, she doesn’t seem like she came from a commercial farm, more likely she is from someone’s backyard flock.

I work for a landscape supply company in Southern California. One day a chicken showed up at our yard and lived on top of a stack of pipe for about 3 weeks before disappearing. We couldn’t figure out where the hell he had come from since there aren’t any farms even remotely close around us and the closest houses are about 2 miles away. A month or two after that it was brought up to a truck driver delivering sod to our yard and he said there are farms by their grow fields and chickens get on their trucks all the time. So he was basically a stowaway from a sod farm delivery.

    5. Time to build a coop, nesting boxes, heating lamps, etc.

Or else just ignore it until it goes back where it came from

Did you know chickens can fly. People clip their wings to prevent flying, this one could have missed out on a couple of clippings

You do now. My neighbors picked up 5 and never knew for a while. No rooster. We get eggs every once in a while.

Why’d he cross the road though? Is he soliciting a free estimate for vinyl siding because his guys are doing a job in the neighborhood? I have questions

You’d be surprised how many people have 🐓 in their backyard, even in the middle of town. Small coops with just a couple of chickens are super common. You don’t think you live near chickens, but guaranteed you do. 😊 Check with your neighbors.

    10. Wow that looks like the exact chicken that appeared in my backyard last year. She must be traveling

    11. Not one single comment on how the chicken matches your decor, and I’m a male (maybe that’s why I only thought of the decor and nothing else?).

Only thinking about it because we are going with a black theme lately as well haha

He’s traveling and you have no right to ask him where he’s going. He’s not subject to your court
