    1. The engraving was published in 1590 by Theodor de Bry as part of Thomas Harriot’s A Briefe and True Report of the New Found Land of Virginia. It was based on a firsthand watercolor sketch by the artist John White, who visited the village in July 1585.

    2. Why was it listed as a town? This would be a small compound or family homestead in Africa, or little more than a hamlet or group of homes in Asia (way too small even to be called a village here). I’m sure either Pomeiooc was far larger than this representation, which would warrant it being called a town, or was exactly this size and was actually a camp or settlement..
