Man, just make the price the price. I’m so sick of trying to guess what stuff is actually going to cost. Not just at restaurants, for everything.

    2. This is just deceptive. Raise the price on the menu if you want to. Don’t add a hidden fee at the end.

They know exactly what they’re doing by putting it under the undercooked meat warning that nobody ever reads. I’m also curious about the legality specifically of having a fee that can be removed if asked but is automatically applied to everyone else’s checks…seems even shadier than traditional (but still BS) “price of goods fees”

    4. This reminds me of the episode of Malcolm in the middle where Lois realises they’ve been paying a service charge as well as tipping at their favourite pizza place. Boycott ensues with the boys of the family sneaking off to eat pizza in the garage only for Lois to then show up moments later with more pizzas she’s brought as a surprise.

    5. Oh please, I love getting additional fees with a meal to line the business owner’s pocket. What’s wrong with yall?

    6. Oh for fuck’s sake, if you’re going to print a new menu with this on it, just… change the damned price

    7. My god, just adjust the damn menu price. Literally just like every other time any costs have increased in the entire history of ever.

    8. >As a way to offset rising costs, we have added a 3.5% [fuck you tax] to all checks. You may request to have this taken off your check should you choose.

      Fixed that for you.

I’m not going to ask them to take the fee off, but I’m within my rights to tip 0%, or 10% if I’m feeling generous.

    10. Most restaurants in Las Vegas have quietly added CNF to their bill.

CNF is Concession/Franchise Fee. A bullshit 5% fee added just because they know most people won’t notice.

    11. That’s what we in the business call a scam

I’d immediately walk out tbh. Places like that deserve to go under. I’m not trusting them with my food if they’re willing to openly deceive their customers like that already.

    12. In the UK we have a 10-15% discretionary service charge. It’s pretty much a forced tip and you can request to remove it.

One of the reasons they don’t fold it in with the regular prices is that a discretionary service charge is not subject to Value Added Tax (VAT) because it is considered a voluntary payment
