    1. The marketing behind smoking cigarettes was bonkers. The Mad Men types didn’t just make it appealing, they made it seem necessary. In 1953 58% of males smoked and 36% of females which averages out to 47% of the entire population. And if you smoked, getting 200 of something you liked (and needed, as it turned out) would seem like a pretty dope present.
