This is my great grandad who like many of my family, served in the Gloucestershire Regt. He was at the battle of Dewetsdorp (19th-22nd Nov 1900) where Boer soldiers besieged and cut off the water supply. These actions forced the British garrison (Gloucesters, Royal Irish Rifles and artillery) to surrender. 15 soldiers were killed and 70 wounded with around 400 captured.

The Boer forces were led by Christiaan de Wet. Randomly, I got talking to a South African guy a few years ago and his surname was de Wet. Turned out Christiaan was a relative. It was interesting chatting about our family members and we raised a glass to them.

I colourised the image using the Perplexity app. First attempt at doing this.

If that’s your first attempt, imagine what you’ll be able to do with some practice 😁

      Great job!
