I work at a Costco and they are starting to be rolled out every where. We got ours maybe a year ago but because traffic only flows one way some times with bigger vehicles you can’t see around then and the lights will indicate that the pump ahead of it is available/unavailable. It isn’t measured by weight sensors it’s measured by if you have put your membership in and started a transaction.

That’s great info. I wouldn’t be able to spot the cars parked at the occupied pumps without it.

Why are they so shitty though? What are those supposed to be, cars? Why not just simple red x’s and green o’s???

    4. Not sure how that sign helps anyone, can’t even tell what it’s supposed to be indicating, just looks like green and red dots thrown in random spots

Costco employee here, almost every gas station that’s been built/updated within the past couple years has them

    6. We just got these at my Costco as well. It…has not helped anything. It’s like people pull into the Costco parking lot and immediately lose 15 IQ points

    7. I like this idea. I get tired of pulling up toward what I think is an unoccupied pimp only to find a cone in front of it

    8. Haha suckers. Here in the Democratic Peoples Republic of New Jersey, they pump it for you. Everyone gets in like 8 orderly queues and you can stay in the car listening to Bon Jovi

    9. The unfortunate part is that you have too many people that park their vehicles so far over the inside lane that it is difficult to navigate between the cars or you’ll have someone that is an oversized SUV that doesn’t feel comfortable driving between so they’ll wait for that 3rd car so they can get that first spot to fill up their 36 gallon tank from E while parked as far from the pump as possible.

    10. That’s what happens when you look up, you see stuff.

If you don’t folks you’re going to miss it.

    11. I thought a car beside the pump was enough of an indicator that it’s in use, but that’s just me.

    12. That is fantastic. If only people would look at their fuel gage and remember which side their gas tank is, we would reach a bliss point never seen.

    13. My Costco puts up cones on all of the middle sections prohibiting people from pulling around to open pumps. Yay Floridah 😐

    14. I think these are counterproductive…most people can’t drive for shit in tight spaces so they aren’t going to drive around a car and pull into an open spot.

These people don’t even take the hint that you can pull the hose over to either side of the car. But I don’t mind because there’s always a ton of open spots on one side because people think they can only pull up on the side their tank door is on.

Since moving to California 6 years ago I would tend to remember the times they didn’t have it vs when they did. It was only once that I can recall. I didn’t go to Costco back on the East Coast so no comparison there either

Stuff like this needs to be more widespread. I went to Disney Springs recently and they had a very similar indicator system for the parking spots in their parking garage. Literally the easiest I’ve ever found a parking spot and you would think it would have been a nightmare.
