I believe Merlin was Mel Blanc doing a WC Fields impression, which is as cool and trendy as it sounds

This was part of the cheaper Saturday Morning version of WB cartoons. Also included a lot of really cheap Daffy and Speedy shorts

Note: Merlin the Magic Mouse and Cool Cat died on the way back to their home planet.

Ugh. WB reduced to copying Hanna-Barbera.

The only reason I know those characters existed, was because of Looney Tunes reruns on Nickelodeon.

Apparently Jack L. Warner himself – aka one of the OG Warner Brothers and president of their namesake Studios – personally greenlit Merlin and Cool Cat’s creation in 1967. Which, just as an aside, is insane that the guy who helped make the first major film with sound in 1927 (the Jazz Singer) and famously produced so many propaganda films for the U.S. during the Second World War was still active in the entertainment industry when Jimi Hendrix and the Doors dropped their first major albums.
