Yeesh, that horse is probably a car alarm away from a full panic gallop. I hope this was part of a socialization thing to get them used to seeing different stuff. If that is a full on police horse already on the beat, it has to be real bad day for whoever gets ‘em at some point.

I was on a trail ride when we passed a dead wombat. Everyone was cautious as we passed but no reaction from the horses. Passing the wombat on the way back, mine bucked me into the air and shot out from under me. I landed safely on my butt to everyone’s amusement (including me)

Ahhh, so this is why people put blinders on horses

Genuine question: how do you train them to be less reactive? For dogs, you just keep walking and don’t react—and they usually just learn to trust you. Do you hop off and lead the horse so it can see that you don’t react to twigs and bins? Or do you bring another horse that is less reactive to lead the reactive horse?

The single sick on the road one did kind of look like a snake so I get it.
Also the “what if the lid is not on properly” for the sewers is something I worry about in the back of my head when I’m riding a bike constantly.
But that is one scared horse, I hope it’s just his first time doing these walks so everything is new to him and not that this is a normal thing.
