To be fair, the first Italo-Ethiopian War was a rather lukewarm intervention, with a few thousand soldiers who needed local support to establish a pro-Italian protectorate (which didn’t happen and led to their defeat).
The second Italo-Ethiopian War was much more serious; they sent entire divisions without considering indigenous collaboration—a full-blown invasion.
