one time on grocery delivery I ordered a jackfruit (for the first time). the estimated cost was around $6 so I thought nothing of it. it was delivered later, at $48 (50lbs) and I have since learned my lesson to not experiment with new foods on grocery delivery

As someone who knows little to nothing about jackfruit, how much of that is actually edible? Was trying to figure out if it would be more of a centerpiece or for the price, if it was a good deal…

    3. 😩😩Damn some poor employee had to pick that mf up and put it up there, that sux…

    4. The first jack fruit I ever bought and tried was so heavenly good. The meat was very full of flavor. I gave 3/4 of the fruit to people.  The second to fifth jack fruits I’ve bought have all been bland and full of rind or whatever it is inside. It’s still a good fruit, but it’s so inconsistent–understandably because it’s grown overseas and picked before ripened. I wish I could have gotten another ripe one. Per pound it is not unaffordable, but buying one fruit is a blow to my wallet, I would rather eat a ton of apples or grapes.

    5. My family in Cambodia has some jackfruit trees in their yard. Fresh (ripe) jackfruit is great, especially if all you’re used to is the canned stuff.

Fun fact: Jackfruit is one of the heaviest, if not the heaviest, fruits to grow on a tree, being able to grow over 100 pounds in size. Because of its size and spikes, it got the nickname “mankiller” and can injure or even kill someone unfortunate enough to be standing underneath if the fruit falls on them

I understand not wanting someone to shoplift this so they put an LP tag on it, but at the same time who could possibly lift and sneak this thing out the door anyway?

when i lived in hawaii i worked on a farm, we had to pick these.

our best way to do it was one of us climbs the tree, cuts the fruit, the other one stood underneath and just kinda slapped it with your hands so it didn’t break.
