Eh. So long as being gay isn’t their whole personality, there’s no issue. Castlevania did it super well with the vampire women who worked with Carmilla. Individually they were powerful in their own rights, and they’re also gay. Cool, them being gay isn’t an important part of their story, it’s just a fact about them

This has been going on since before woke culture. I remember audibly gagging when Omar from The Wire started making out with that dude. Turned out to be one of the best characters in TV history, but still gay AF.

Not just Netflix, but they are def the frontrunner.

Y’all realize gay people exist, right? Almost every job I’ve worked has had at least one openly gay person (until recently) so having one gay character is just… Accurate. These gay dudes are hilarious by the way, probably due to coping with trauma due to weirdos obsessing over their sexuality. Just chill out and mind your business for fucks sake.

I like it if the character is essential (main or side character), but the fact they are gay is just a tidbit of their characterization (if its not a romantic show/movie bas3d on them). Like, nah people are just regular people too. They just happen to be gay. If its brough up just a bit like heterosexuality is, then it can work well. Most gay people dont actively shove it in a random person’s face. They’ll just mention “oh my bf/gf/whatever did this the other day!” and thats about it.
If the makers of the media make this aspect the character’s entire personality, it feels extra performative rather than a genuine intention to be inclusive.

This actually comes from a real life phenomenon where gay people exist.

I’m not sure what you mwan with unnecessary? About 10 percent of the population is not straight irl. Gay people don’t have to be “necessary” to be casted. They are real and a nor.al part of the world.

What kind shows you are watching where all of them have an unnecessary gay character?

Why do I see basicly the same meme over and over again every couple of weeks on here. We get it Netflix wants to pander to Gen Z
As opposed to all the super necessary straight characters, right?

Ugh, has this question not been asked in a million memes before this? I feel like it’s just karma farming to post this type of thing at this point

In fictional stories, are you really watching them and only judging them on “what’s necessary”? That’s an odd way to consume things

I hate when shows make sexual appeal a big thing. For instance I fucking love supernatural but I despise when like half of the episode is dean basicaly going “yeah I get bitches”. But literally no one else cares.
Why is it okay for someone to be a sexually active or forward about their sexual activity unless they’re gay? Also most shows have like 2-4 gay characters at most while the rest are straight.
It’s like there’s a 1 hour episode of characters doing normal stuff humans do like going on dates, kissing, hugging etc but the second it’s a gay individual they’re a token character. What’s even more annoying is the ones being complained about usually don’t do anything annoying.
