There were 4 lobsters in this tank and they each took a corner in a pseudo Mexican standoff looking way

    1. It’s actually a well known fact that lobsters are the most antisocial creatures on the planet.

I can’t imagine lobsters in a cage being the most cuddly animal in the world. They all need their space just like me 🙂‍↔️

Wouldn’t you? Drop me in a tank with three randos and it’s corner time until I figure out what the fuck is going on.

    4. This is the way I set my tent on every music festival I attend.

Im mexican btw and I approve.

The lobster is a prey animal and most vulnerable at its tail. It’s the reason why so many crustaceans evolve into crabs. In their natural habitat, they back themselves into holes and crevices so nothing can get to them from behind where they are defenseless, and avoid open areas unless foraging. In this tank they are completely exposed and the only thing that makes them feel remotely safe are the corners as at least nothing can sneak up on them from behind.

Long story short, they are (rightly) terrified that they are about to be eaten by a predator.

    6. Wouldn’t it make the most sense to be in the corners though? Think about when there were other lobsters in the tank. The staff are more likely to grab from the center I’d imagine than intentionally go for the corner.

My dad stayed at a hotel with a full lobster tank. During the night a lobster got the rubber band off one of its claws. In the morning there was one lobster, chilling in a tank full of lobster viscera.

    8. Lobsters are extremely territorial. The rubber bands on their claws are more to prevent them from killing and cannibalizing each other than they are to protect humans handling them.

    9. My local grocery store has a big lobster tank. One day there was a lobster that didn’t have an elastic on its claw and another lobster in the tank was cleaved perfectly in half from head to tail. A couple other lobsters were minding their own business in the corners

    10. This is just natural behavior, depending on time of year and place they were caught. If they are in a certain temp water etc. they will want to be solitary and find a hole crack rock to go under and defend. There’s only 4 corners so they go there. Rest of the time of the year they will literally crawl over each other and walk around like ants.

I dive every day. In a lobster fishing community.

    11. Probably because they’re in the United States and they’re Canadian. And there’s a rumor in the Tank that one of the four is undercover.
