      Crazy part is this statue stood there for 1,500 years. Saw empires rise and collapse — Kushans, Mongols, Mughals, British, Soviets. Wars, invasions, regime changes… all came and went.Then in 2001, a few years of fanaticism did what centuries of war couldn’t.Not destroyed by time. Not by weather. Not by conquest.Destroyed by insecurity and fear of stone
