It’s difficult to read about the gun violence in Australia. I hope moderate opinions in other faiths, such as Islam, continue to take precedent to stop extremists in Christian countries. This was likely also a drug use issue.
I am not a current private firearm owner, but as a Canadian, I support private firearm ownership for over twenty one with a license, training, and background check.
Arresting violent criminals, and confiscating the individual criminal or extremist firearms is legally the better option , remembering the value of private gun ownership in Canada and Australia.

Regarding the chart. Im bothered by the x axis having 8 labels and the chart having 16 data points on the line. The labels not being even intervals make it difficult to understand the extra points

Nothing beautiful about this data presentation.
Needs to show before 1996 as well as after.
Also, needs to be adjusted for population differences over the past 30 years.

Just have to say, if there is one country on earth where I could see justification for private citizens owning firearms, it would be Australia.
