Omg that’s a blast from the past! I remember getting these in the 80’s and early 90’s! It’s pretty neat that there’s still places that do this!

Chinese takeaways here often do the same for Chinese New Year.

The place near me (only about an hour from Sacramento!) Does a fancy calendar thing if you dine in during the Christmas season. Its a nice touch.

I got one at my favorite local place. I go there a good amount and they know me so that might be a factor. I also lived in China for a summer so talking to them about how (local no western chain) fast food in China is even better than the normal main dishes they serve. They also said that they add those dishes, only to add more sugar and less flavors that want to, to keep the doors open.
I dont speak/read Mandarin well but, it helps to venture into the menu that has 0 English. Makes me feel like I find buried treasures when I see some similar names I heard in China.
Also, get wechat. Text translator, and talk to text and message is a game changer. Nothing makes me cringe more hearing English people talk like cavemen and loud to see if other people can understand better.

This is normal, at least here in Canada.

Grew up in a fairly large city and it seemed then that every Chinese restaurant did these, especially the ones that are more take-out focused rather than dine-in. Lived in a much smaller town for going on 4 years now and I just got one from the (only) Chinese restaurant in town for the first time this month. Made me realize how much I missed having the wall scroll calendar with the phone number I need to call in case I need an emergency general tso’s chicken and some crab rangoons

The local family owned chinese place in town gives out Chinese calendars for christmas. Or they used to. I dont eat there anymore since they changed chefs. Its gross now. But it used to be the best little family place. So ive gotten their gifts before.
