Regular Kraft Mac and Cheese(left) calls for 8x more butter than Kraft SpongeBob Mac and cheese.

    1. SpongeBob kinda looks like butter who lives in a pineapple under the sea from certain angles. Maybe they account for that in their scientific cooking methods.

    2. I like that it’s got classic prep instructions as if SpongeBob Mac and cheese has been around for 50 years.

I would follow the one with less butter. I had a nostalgic hankering for some kraft mac and cheese from the box and made it a few weeks ago. Wondered why it ended up like soup and folks online were saying it’s WAY too much butter in the instructions.

I remember when the Kraft instructions were 1/2 cup and 1/4 cup for the butter and milk. The boxes are so small now.

They’ve been trolling people forever with that stupid little “push here to open” thing that has never worked.

    6. This stuff shouldn’t be consumed by humans either way, but especially not with a half a stick of butter😂

    7. No measuring. Just a big glop of butter, splash of half and half cream, tablespoonish of cheese whiz from the jar, then the cheese powder. 💥

For the longest time the shape mac and cheese boxes had the skim milk and one pat of butter instruction shown here but had a little note in small print that for a richer taste, use 2 more tbsp of butter

    9. I used to work R&D in a big food company, and we had internal nutrition guidelines that our products were supposed to meet. The problem was that the sodium level guideline was dependent on the total calories per serving. I was in a meeting where a product was not meeting the sodium guideline, so someone recommended changing the prep instructions to add more margarine. That increased the calories which made the sodium level pass, but overall it was what I deemed a less healthy product–more calories and the same sodium. Of course the guy in charge of the nutrition guidelines claimed that was not happening.

    10. We haven’t used butter in years. Double up on the milk and mix in the powder over a very low heat and reduce.

    11. TIL American KD is crazy on the butter. Ours only calls for 1tbsp. But America doesn’t care about health lol. For context I’m Canadian and eat KD like 4 times a week on a slow week.

It also has less pasta and cheese sauce in the SpongeBob one if you didn’t notice.

    14. The Costco multi pack uses the instructions on the left and those are the ones I grew up with.

    15. Does it have some sort of fat in the powder?  Maybe you don’t need as much butter because there’s something else in the package to take its place

    16. I noticed this as well. What annoys me is on the regular one they change the units. 1/4 cup is just 4 tablespoons.

    17. I wonder if the assumption is that shaped mac is for kids so its less butter for health and cooked longer for softer noodles?
