Could someone please explain why Affordable Care Act bothers the Republicans?
Is it simply because they dislike Obama?
Is it a decent program? Why or why not?
Thanks for replies, Merry Christmas from a confused 🇨🇦

Ah yes, the Republican plan, privatize everything so the American oligarchs can hold sway over all the serfs.
Someone tell the Republicans if they keep going in that direction why would we need a political government?

It’s more of a scam, than a plan.

4% sounds like a small number.
20 million Americans doesn’t sound like a small number, it sounds like 20 million Americans adversely and immediately impacted by poor decision-making and poor policy.
And for the most part, they are not in this position due to their own inaction, they are there because they followed the American dream of being self-employed or starting their own small business, or work for a small business, just like we always encouraged them to do.

4% of a very large number is still 14 million Americans, idiot.

They want people to have kids, but my coworkers with families are getting extra fucked by insurance costs this year.

Where to buy insurance isn’t the problem. The premiums without the govt subsidy is the problem for normal people. Costco etc would still be using the existing health insurers so how would that save a significant amount on premiums?

It is actually around 8% or 24.3 million people in 2025.

“Kentucky expanded Medicaid under the ACA, covering a large segment of low-income residents; as of 2024, nearly 1.5 million people were on Medicaid, representing a substantial chunk of the state.”

Why do Republicans insist on a profit motive to healthcare?
Kudos if you can answer this question without some “both sides” bullshit.

The dirty little secret the Republicans don’t want folks to realize is that they have no Republican option to Obamacare, because Obamacare was the Republican option.

They don’t have a plan, they just want you to suffer and die if it means they can save a buck.

“Obamacare came from a black man so therefore it must be destroyed even if millions have to suffer” is the message I am getting from Republicans.

Today we have a predatory middle-man in every healthcare transaction that offers no value. The price is not lower, the care is not better, and it’s not simpler.
And the real kicker, is that the middle-man has us all arguing about who should pay the middle-man, instead of why the middleman is there at all.

I have ACA. Some years I pay zero, other years I pay about $20-30 a month (I have low income).
This year, thanks to Republicans’ racism and b.s., I now have to pay over $100 a month. That may not sound like a lot to some people, but it’s devastating for me.
Just. Let. Us. Have. Fucking. Health. Care.

So, he’s conceding that large organizations are necessary to more effectively lower prices for individual payers, but that it should be done by Costco instead of an even larger, more powerful entity that we ALREADY PAY TAXES TO. Am I getting this right?

Costco, Amazon and Sam’s Club don’t sell health insurance outside of the coverage provided to their employees. Rand Paul is proposing something that has no basis in reality.
Meanwhile, the existing ACA exchange <based on your zip code> provides literally dozens of health insurance options across many different insurers spanning FFS, HMO, and HDHP plans.

Here’s a solution. Rebrand ACA/Obamacare. Just call it Trump care and permanently apply the subsidies.
The GOP might be able to fool him on this one.
Have them mail a gold envelope to all Americans welcoming them to Trump Care. The letter tells them to go to healthcare.gov and pick out their insurance.

Lets put a hold on Congressional healthcare until they come up with a plan and that is the plan for them and everyone else

All these politicians need to Have to stand in a food line in order to get food for his family. They need to loose their lifetime health insurance and have to go to Costco or somewhere to get their lousy policy that cost a fortune (our fortune) to cover very little.
