**Context**: the guy in the picture is Vlad the Impaler’s great grandson, Peter the Lame of Moldavia. He fought for the Moldavian throne against the then ruler John the Terrible with support from his brother Alexander II of Wallachia and the Ottomans. John defeated him at the Battle of JiliÈ™te but Peter took over after John was defeated by the Ottomans in the Battle of Cahul.

However as soon as Peter took the throne he was challanged by a Ukrainian cossack named John the Horseshoe who claimed to be the brother of John the Terrible. John the Horseshoe came on top but was removed by the Ottomans and the Poles so Peter returned to the throne

After a year however another pretender named John the Saxon who was John the Terrible’s first cousin once removed showed up and took the throne. However this one abdicated and fled the country after 4 years when he heard that the Ottomans were comming for him resulting in Peter returning one last time and abdicating after a decade to retire to Italy
