    1. There’s certainly something that looks weird about that effect, if the footage is genuine. If so there might be some way to harness it

Edited to add: Deep sigh. Not the fact that gyros work, FFS. What’s actually interesting is the apparent effect of gyroscopic rotation to seem to reduce gravitationally active mass.

That’s a perfect end for that line everyone says..

“it’s still going to this day..”

he went to the same school as me (many, many years apart) and did a science demo/lecture at the school and was responsible for the initial development of maglev

    4. I like how he can barely contain his giggle doing it.

And how he has to spin around to slow it down

**Eric Roberts Laithwaite** (14 June 1921 – 27 November 1997) was an English [electrical engineer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_engineer), known as the “[Father of](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_considered_father_or_mother_of_a_field) [Maglev](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maglev)”[^([1])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Laithwaite#cite_note-1) for his development of the [linear induction motor](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_induction_motor) and [maglev](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maglev_(transport)) rail system after [Hermann Kemper](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermann_Kemper).

    6. It’s also interesting to wonder if someone found that out accidentally somehow or if someone had an idea and thought it would work.

    7. Due to the gyro effect, the force of gravity pushes the wheel horizontally. He applies a little extra force in the horizontal direction, which gets turned into an upwards force. I still remember studying helicopters in high school physics 30 years ago. It was one of the coolest things we learned.

need to have this guy meet Vasily in some gym and pull a real tag team on unsuspecting gym rats

    9. Check out his book ‘The Engineer Through the Looking Glass’ it’s full of this kind of stuff.
