I think you need to take that cat to a vet.It looks like the claw is growing back in on itself.

    2. If it’s not grown into the pad yet, just clip it with your cat nail clippers. No reason to visit the vet unless it’s actually grown into the skin. Our 18yr old has been like this her whole life. You just have to remember to clip them before it gets that bad.

Of course everybody in the comments acting like they know more about the cat you live and spend your time with and take care of… lmfao. Cute fella

My cat had a similar claw, the vet cut the entire thing off and a regular claw was growing underneath it.

    5. My dog has a nail like this, much bigger and thicker than the others. I was told it was from trauma as a puppy, like getting it caught in something and tearing it off. I am guessing it’s possibly the same for your kitty.

    6. We had a cat like this. Some flaky layers came off with it on each trim and eventually it flaked off to a normal sized nail. But yeah as you already mentioned, keep it trimmed and it sounds like it isn’t causing your kitty any issue with just that.

    7. My kitty had one of those too and it got into her paw pad when I didn’t cut them. It was a quick fix at the doctors but I felt bad that it got too long. Luckily, it was pressing the paw pad but didn’t break skin because we caught it in time.

i saw that you said you trim this claw once a month, but it may be better for him to have it trimmed weekly or biweekly. if it’s to the point where you can hear it clicking as he walks, i can’t imagine that’d be very comfortable for him. not saying this to be snarky either, hopefully it isn’t taken that way!
