Kiwis have always had a huge Maori population…wtf. I’m Australian, so we get plenty of people moving between both countries, and I can honestly say it’s weirder to hear a Kiwi accent from a white person than it is a Maori/Islander. And it’s been that way for as long as I can remember.

So by this definition “Western Civilization” is just the Europeans living in the west. What about all the other people that are part of “Western Civilization”? The subtext here is that he doesn’t see non Europeans as being civilized.

It is funny to see this though because I’ve had people try to tell me that New Zealand is a super white country a few times recently, and then quote me statistics on % of Europeans.
Which is really weird because people don’t seem to understand that you are completely capable of being multiple ethnicities. For instance, I am Māori, and I am European. I make up part of *both* statistics.
Just because someone shows up in a statistic as European, it does not mean that they are white, at all.
