It’s controversial because that’s rarely where the money actually goes.

But what about the poor rich people?? Won’t anyone think about the poor rich people?!

Unfortunately, these programs often don’t give money to the homeless or hungry. I’d like these systems more if I could trust them, otherwise, it’s just more money being pocketed by politicians.

    4. This is a normal opinion during this one month until Christmas is over, then it’s right back to “ew poor people!”

    5. Okay, yeah, agreed, but I came to look at funny memes, not for your political opinion that no one asked for. R/memes (literally) isn’t for this garbage. Go post that shit somewhere else.

Noone is stopping you from feeding the hungry and housing the homeless. You can do so individually , or with NGOs. What’s controversial is compelling others to do the same when a guy works hard to earn enough for his family ,and there’s a freeloader milking the system with snap, section 8, welfare, Medicaid, etc. driving a Bentley he put in someone else’s name

    7. Being from Britain, we have this policy. It just makes loads of people dependent on government handouts, they don’t end up getting jobs, but stay unemployed and leech money of working people. But ye our tax money should help poor people get jobs so they can become independent

1 million dollars in taxes collected for feeding the hungry and housing the homeless = 999,999 dollars in administrative fees, grift, kickbacks and 1.00 worth of help.

      That’s what I mind

Yeah but the government always waste my tax money

Ya know they repave one street in my neighborhood all the time. But don’t touch any of the ones with potholes

But what if instead it went to pay extravagant salaries to bureaucrats who promise to try their bestest to solve hunger and homelessness?

    11. heyhihowyahdurn on

Exactly, I’d rather have a system in place that helps others, and where if I fall on hard times it can help me back up. The problem is we barely house the homeless and feed the hungry. All the money gets used up paying the people managing the social issues, not the issues itself.

Just make taxes voluntary so you can give the amount you want to the cause(s) of your choice? Why are so many people ok with using the threat of force and violence when it comes to taxes?

    13. me too, as long as it’s the homeless & hungry IN my own country and FROM my own country. i have f*cking had it with being forced to financially support people in/from other countries while the people of MY country go hungry & homeless!

    14. But what if they don’t deserve it?  What if they’re lazy?  Or they do drugs? Or they’re criminals?!  Or ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AAHHHHH!!!

    15. SamanthaJaneyCake on

I’d rather that be the case than it line the pockets of the corrupt ruling class. Eat the rich.

    16. Everybody benefits from feeding the hungry and housing the homeless. Less crime, happier people, better society.

    17. I’m all for taxes helping all of us out. My problem is government at every level is ripe with corruption so our taxes are being misspent, misallocated, or just straight up stolen. So I’m unwilling to give an extra penny because the money is already there, but those in power want it for themselves.

Tell me you’re sub 35 without saying your sub 35 y/o lol or you fat with shitty tattoos and bad hair. Maybe people can work to get money, I’ve seen that cafe that’s run by quadriplegics and we have volunteers with learning disabilities at my work. Everyone can work and people should work and should want to work, nothing good happens when you sit on your ass at home all day.

    19. More importantly, I advocate for *our* taxes to contribute to make the country/world a better place to live. My tax alone cannot achieve this.

    20. DevelopedDevelopment on

I would say “What if we set up a charity that actually does these things and donated to it expecting a societal return?” but that’s describing what taxes and government are supposed to be doing.

    21. Id be ok with this. What I’m not ok with is tax money being spent to militarized police, indemnification of police, corporate bailouts, paychecks of pedophiles who dont actually do anything but say say or nay to shit they don’t understand, turning anerica into to 1984, and whatever other heinous, criminal, and deliberate actions of misconduct they go towards.

    22. wouldn’t it be much better to spend that money on creating more low requirement jobs so homelessness isn’t a crisis to begin with?

    23. I feel like the tax is inevitable; it will either be spent on welfare programs or be spent on more police. Welfare will at least have SOME percentage of people who do build or rebuild a life they are proud of. I don’t see a whole lot of that happening when the poor desperately turn to crime. They just get bitter and more angry and then teach their kids to not trust the systems. That’s where that long term gypsy mentality comes from, generational mistrust and bitterness towards the law abiding part of society. If we kill all social welfare programs then eventually the US will end up with gypsy like neverending low income crime cultures as a norm, the kind Europe has been battling for centuries.

I’d rather live in a society with people on welfare than in a society where in public we are constantly preyed upon by tribes of pick pockets, muggers, and scam artists.

    24. If only taxes actually went to those things in any real amount and weren’t massively mismanaged/wasted.

    25. I DO MIND if they’re illegal immigrants.

Illegal immigrants, who aren’t being deported, as the law dictates.

Illegal immigrants who are NOT from war-torn countries, and when they come in by the literal boatloads.

AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who become 60-80% dependent on welfare with no sight of attempting to find a job or learn a skill for the foreseeable future

AS A START! Let’s not even bring up crime data.

      Edit: minor formatting and spelling

    26. But… The president wants all of it for him and his friends. How is that gonna help him if it was spent to help the people 🙄

    27. I do mind because many corrupt people are taking advantage of such charities to donate to terrorists and ongoing wars.
