Context it is hypothesized that mitochondria started out as a single celled organism that was absorbed into a eukaryotic cell and just started replicating itself inside of it. Soon it just became apart of the cells system. Similar event happened with choraplasts in plant cells. Makes you wonder what kind of alien life we will find that had their entire biology changed because its cellular ancestor ate the right kind of smaller cell.
